The Art of Materials workshop connects pottery with science for elementary school students with ages up to 12. I’ve been doing pottery on the wheel since 8th grade, and through that I became really interested in the science behind how clay behaves while making a vessel and how it turns into glass in the kiln. In the workshop, I do a live pottery wheel demonstration and walk students through how a pot is made, while also introducing simple science concepts in a way that’s meant to be fun and easy to follow.
